A traditional thangka is not simply an image. It is a sacred art form shaped by precise iconography, disciplined training, and generations of transmission.
At Living Lineage Atelier, each original work is created under the guidance of ninth-generation thangka master Tenzin Dhargay and the continuing practice of tenth-generation artist Tenzin Kalden.
For serious collectors, private commissions offer a direct way to acquire a work from this living family lineage with personal guidance, careful documentation, and a clear commission process.

Private commissions are intended for those seeking a meaningful original work created through traditional Tibetan methods.
This may include private collectors of Himalayan or sacred art, Buddhist practitioners and Dharma patrons, cultural institutions, retreat centers, interior designers, families, and individuals commissioning a thangka for spiritual, devotional, or legacy purposes.
Each commission is approached individually according to the subject, size, iconography, purpose, and level of detail required.

Private commissions may include personal guidance on subject and size, iconographic direction, reserved studio time, selected process documentation, a provenance packet, presentation guidance, and international shipping coordination.
Each collector packet can document the artwork, the artist, the lineage, the materials, the date of completion, the size, and the place of creation.

How the commission process works
Private inquiry
Begin by sharing what you are looking for, including the subject, approximate size, purpose, location, timeline, and whether the work is for private, institutional, or devotional use.
Consultation and recommendation
We review the request and provide guidance on the appropriate subject, composition, size, and level of detail.
Proposal and reservation
Once the direction is clear, we provide a commission proposal with price, estimated timeline, payment structure, and included documentation. A deposit reserves the work in the atelier schedule.
Creation of the thangka
The work is created through traditional studio practice, including drawing, painting, gold detailing, and final refinement.
Documentation and delivery
Upon completion, the work is photographed, documented, and prepared for pickup or international delivery.

Each private commission can be accompanied by a collector packet documenting the work, the artist, the lineage, the materials, the date of completion, and the place of creation.
This creates a clear record of the artwork’s origin and preserves the connection between the collector, the atelier, and the living lineage from which the work emerged.

Limited by time, tradition, and studio capacity
Private commissions are accepted selectively.
Traditional thangka painting cannot be rushed, and the atelier’s capacity is limited by the time, attention, and discipline required to create each work properly.
For this reason, inquiries are reviewed individually before a commission is accepted.
